Joshua Kuehn's professional creative work began in 2015 while living in New Mexico. After purchasing his first camera, he began photographing the people, places, and landscapes around him. Encouraged by local photographer Eden Fine and inspired by the birth of his son in 2016, he began photographing families and children. What started as a hobby quickly became a source of paid client work and the foundation of what would eventually become the Joshua K brand.
As demand increased, Joshua pursued formal training through San Juan College in Farmington, New Mexico, studying photography, multimedia, and Adobe Creative Suite. Under the instruction of commercial photographer Tony Bennett, whose work includes national advertising campaigns and major sports organizations, Joshua expanded his skills beyond photography into design, web development, visual storytelling, and video production.
By 2017, Joshua had developed a growing portfolio of paid work and formally registered the business in the State of New Mexico as Joshua Kuehn LLC. While the legal entity operated under his name, Joshua K Photography emerged as the primary public-facing brand through which photography services were offered to clients.
The practice continued to evolve as clients began seeking more than photography. Requests increasingly included video production, website development, personal branding, marketing support, and communication strategy. During this period, Joshua worked with a diverse range of clients including churches, musicians, nonprofit organizations, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and future Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade.
Rather than pursuing photography as a full-time career path, Joshua intentionally developed a broader professional practice centered on communication, storytelling, branding, and organizational development. Photography remained an important part of the business, but increasingly served alongside website development, content creation, strategic messaging, brand development, and communications consulting.
As the scope of work expanded, so did the structure of the business. In 2025, Joshua K LLC was established in Indiana to support expanded consulting services and meet the insurance requirements necessary for municipal and government-related projects.
Today, Joshua K Creative serves as the broader creative and communications practice through which Joshua provides branding, communications strategy, website development, content creation, video production, organizational storytelling, and consulting services. Joshua K Photography remains the primary public-facing photography brand and portfolio, serving a wider range of portrait, family, event, and commercial photography clients.
This distinction is intentional. While Joshua K Photography showcases a broad portfolio of publicly marketed photography work, Joshua K Creative represents the wider evolution of Joshua's professional practice and reflects a more selective portfolio of communications, branding, marketing, and consulting engagements that are often relationship-driven and referral-based.
What started with a camera and a creative eye quickly evolved beyond family portraits into event photography, storytelling, branding, website development, copywriting, marketing, and consulting. This portfolio documents that journey.
A question began trending among leaders and entrepreneurs: "Have you considered your personal brand?" Joshua started asking that question and devised a solution. This became one of his earliest consulting services and led to work with musicians, ministry leaders, and a future mayor.
Having grown a student ministry in New Mexico using social media and video as primary communication tools, Joshua understood how video could drive engagement and community. He began producing promotional and recap videos for churches and organizations, helping them tell their stories and extend their reach.
With over 25 shoots booked in 2019 and a growing list of branding and video clients, Joshua enrolled in Bethel University's MBA program to build the business and marketing foundation to match what he was already doing in practice. One of his first courses was Marketing Strategy.
As the pandemic wound down, Joshua added wedding videography to his services. The photography market had become saturated with new entrants during lockdown, but videography remained largely untapped in the region. It was a deliberate move to differentiate and expand.
Just before 2022, Joshua welcomed his second child. That same year, his role at River Oaks Church expanded significantly as the organization launched a capital campaign requiring new hires, a new website, and a full communications overhaul. It was also the year Yemi Mobolade officially announced his candidacy for Mayor of Colorado Springs. Joshua was there to capture it.
2023 brought a full slate of client work including weddings, artist promotional photography, and events, including work with local musicians and bands such as The 1985 Band.
This project went well beyond a website refresh. Joshua guided the organization through a full rebrand including naming, revised mission and vision statements, logo development, and a complete website build. He created every visual asset for the site, then trained and supported staff in managing it independently. The engagement spanned six months of active development followed by a full year of back-end support and coaching.
Not every organization needs a full rebrand, and Joshua works within that reality. Granger Missionary Church needed a website that could better serve their bilingual congregation and strengthen their community presence. Joshua built the structural foundation and communications standards, then coached the staff member who would own the site going forward, equipping them to build and manage it independently.
In 2026, Joshua was contracted by the Elkhart Police Department to support their recruiting communications. The scope includes photography for print materials, a storytelling highlight video for their HR page, consulting with their communications team, and directing and shooting a 30-second television spot. Work is currently underway.
